Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday evening said that Kashmiri student, missing in Odisha for the past one month has not been abducted by Maoists. The spokesman said that there is no proof that Kashmiri student Suhail Aijaz Kataria who went missing from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar since February 9 has been abducted.
He said there is no substantial confirmed evidence that Suhail, a resident of Kupwara has been abducted. The news is reportedly based on only a handwritten poster pasted on the wall of Baramunda Bus Stand Bhubaneshwar. The spokesman said SSP Kupwara is in continuous contact with the concerned Police authorities and on Monday he spoke to DCP Bhubaneshwar Satiabrata about the veracity of the contents of the poster. Pertinent to mention, the news of the abduction of Kashmiri student of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Odisha by Maoists for the release of jailed Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, as reported by Kalinga TV, an Odia language 24-hour news channel in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
More than three weeks after a Kashmiri student of city-based AIIMS has gone missing, wall posters threatening to kill the missing MBBS student surfaced in the name of Maoists in the early hours of Monday. The handwritten posters bearing the name of banned CPI (Maoist) Odisha State Committee, which were put up on the walls of Baramunda bus stand area in the city, claimed that the missing Kashmiri student Suhail Aijaz has been kept under their custody and warned to release the jailed Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda within seven days or else they would kill the missing student.
Meanwhile, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi informed that Khandagiri Police has seized the posters and started an investigation in this regard. However, Subhashree Panda (Mili), wife of Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, said that posters found in the city were an attempt to deflect the investigation in connection to the missing medical student. Subhashree also suspected the posters to be a handiwork of some unscrupulous elements as her husband has never been a member of CPI (Maoist). The spokesman also said that DGP Orrisa had convened a meeting with senior officers to review the progress of the case, adding that the search of the missing boy is going-on vigorously and they are investigating the matter from all angles, besides they have also sensitized other adjoining states about the missing of the boy.
SSP Kupwara added that he has spoken to the father of the missing boy stationed at Bhubaneshwar who told him that the poster is fake and Bhubaneshwar Police is working very hard to ascertain the whereabouts of his son. Suhail’s father, a schoolteacher in Kupwara, landed in Bhubaneswar more than a fortnight ago. He has shared two videos of his wife Shaheen Begum appealing to Aijaz to come back. “I will not touch food or water till you come back,” she says in the videos. Ahmed said he had stopped speculating about his son. “I will have to go back to Kupwara soon. I just hope he sees the video messages of his mother, who is fasting. I hope he comes back and does whatever he likes in life. We don’t want anything from him,” he said. Ahmed had earlier said Aijaz was the most gifted among his six children, reported Hindustan Times. Notably, 19-year-old Suhail, a resident of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district is pursuing MBBS at the AIIMS since 2016, left his hostel on February 9 and has been missing since then.
